Organized as network in 1978 and incorporated in 1983, the Society of Dance History Scholars (SDHS) promotes the study of dance history, broadly conceived to include the Western theatrical dance from Renaissance and Baroque court entertainments to postmodern dance theater; non-Western dance; and popular dance forms from the waltz to the tango. SDHC organizes an annual conference and publishes Studies in Dance History (a monograph series).
