Biography

Tiffany “hanan” Madera, M.A.  is described by the Miami Herald “as a dominant force in contemporary dance here”.  She is also a highly sought after dance and performance writer and is published in the New Times, Sunpost, Yallah, Visions, Fodors Travel, Artburst and performancejournalism.com. She is in post production of her second documentary film “Havana Habibi” with joshua bee alafia and is featured in other films including Bellydance Superstars’; “American Bellydancer” and “Cuban America”, among others. Hanan is also a theater artist and performs with Crystal Parrot Players and Mad Cat Theater Company and was recently featured in the South Beach Comedy Festival in an original role created by Paul Tei.  She has produced various festivals and events including the highly acclaimed “Hanan with other friendly gods and goddesses” which was awarded the Miami Heralds “Top Ten shows of the year” and the Habibi trilogy; a multi year, interdisciplinary theater and outreach project fusing hip hop and bellydance. She has also produced the ‘Cuban Hip Hop Film festival” and the “Dance Empowerment Festival” featuring the Dalia Carella Dance Collective. Hanan is most proud of her work empowering women through dance in the Dance Empowerment Project originally created for survivors of sexual abuse and then expanded for all women. She has also interned with Artspring teaching dance to incarcerated women and has brought the DEP to shelters and marginalized communities.  Hanan’s “Bellydance Cuba” project brought bellydance and music instruction to Havana and she co founded Cuba’s first professional Bellydance Ensemble , “Grupo Aisha al Hanan”.  Hanan is the Executive Director of the Mideastern Dance Exchange, 501C3 and teaches and performs her unique brand of bellydance locally and internationally. www.hanan4peace.com and “hanan-a-rama fan page” on facebook.
